Hived is a virtual finance business – a fully digital outsourcing solution that still holds a personable and friendly touch. Founded by chartered accountant Kate Willemite, this exciting new startup needed an identity to embody their high-quality, honest, practical approach.

Starting with the company name, Northlight helped to give the brand a title that would speak to the right audience while genuinely identifying with the company values. ‘Hived’ is a name that expresses a people-focused, collaborative outlook while alluding to the concept of ‘Hiving off’ or separating a department from a larger group or organisation.

Bringing the financial component to the fore, we utilised mathematical symbols and numerals, which, paired with a friendly and authoritative serif typeface and contemporary colour palette, form a distinctive graphic language. From here, we created a simple wordmark set within parentheses – a recognisable mathematical symbol which suggests the shape of a bee’s hive.

The new visual identity is designed to communicate effectively across all platforms. We worked with Hived to build a new website to promote their passionate and jargon-free financial services.
