Cavalier Carpets are a beloved second-generation family-owned business that began crafting carpets in the 1970s. Their humble roots started with their founder selling carpets to homeowners from a market stall in the Lancashire town of Blackburn. Fast forward 50 years, and Cavalier Carpets are now one of the leading carpet manufacturers in Britain.

Northlight worked closely with the team at Cavalier Carpets to develop their brand narrative, which is all built on their history and traditional family values and is summarised in the strapline ‘The Family Carpets Maker’. Cavalier Carpets are much more than just a carpet manufacturer, they’re a family that extends to everyone they work with, and they are proud of the fact.

From the start of creating their visual identity, we knew that a route using the original Cavalier logo mark would be a neat idea. The Cavalier head logo had been removed several years ago, but the logo mark was still highly regarded by staff and customers. It made sense to bring it back and use this opportunity to update the logo and make it front and centre to represent the company’s history and as a mark of exceptional quality whilst at the same time embodying the brand’s core values.

The cavalier head logo has been redrawn entirely; now forward-facing and used as a hallmark to denote quality and heritage, it has become the central core feature of the identity system. The logo is applied as a super graphic and stand-alone asset with the rest of the visual identity. Alongside the logo, the identity system incorporates an updated colour palette that takes inspiration from a cavalier soldier uniform, a new typographic style, a more human (family) photographic approach and a graphic language that works in connection with the new logo mark.
